Project Description:
Nestled among the Rocky Mountains, the Gateway Colorado Auto Museum showcases the collection of Discovery Communications, Inc. founder John Hendricks, using his cars to tell the story of the performing art of the American automobile.
The 28,000-square-foot museum takes visitors on a multimedia tour through American automotive history, beginning with the first American-made car and ending in the muscle car era. More than 40 cars are displayed alongside archival advertisements, high-definition media pieces and science interactives developed according to local and regional academic curriculum standards. The centerpiece of the museum is a one-of-a-kind 1954 Oldsmobile F-88 “Dream Car,” which was purchased in January 2005 at the Barrett-Jackson Classic Car Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona, for a record $3.24 million.
