Project Description:
The McKenna Children's Museum features over 10,000 square feet of exhibits for children and their caregivers. Through a variety of interactive exhibits and programs, museum visitors of all ages experience the joy of learning and the power of play in a wholesome, safe, welcoming environment. The museum’s exhibits and programs reflect the diverse cultures of the local region and were developed with the most current knowledge of the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional needs of children.
The entry to the museum features the sights and sounds of a typical summer day on the Comal River, an allusion to New Braunfels’ famous river tubing experience. After ticketing, guests find themselves “underwater,” swimming with hundreds of paper mache fish and dodging the dangling arms and legs of tubers at the surface. Exploring further, guests encounter interactives dotted with scenes from a ranch, a town square and a hospital. At the Hill Country Campground, guests can fish, prepare “food” and climb a great tree, a scene evoking the imagery of the local landscape.
